Finally got heart of the problem after replacing the hydraulic pump – it was the pressure switch at the bottom of the pump. I’ve been chasing this problem since I bought the plane last year!

    Bob, That’s probably the problem.
Let me know how it comes out.

It appears that the pump cuts off, but it’s hard to tell when its in the air.
Yes, the reservoir is full of hydraulic fluid. We’ve decided to pull the pump and have it overhauled.

Questions: 1) what is the serial number of your airplane?
    2) can you tell if the pump is still running when the gear legs don’t fully retract?? You may be able to determine this by watching the electrical load meter on your panel. When the pump starts and shuts off, there should be a marked but momentary defection of the needle.
If the gear is not going all the way up when in flight because the motor shuts off, that’s one problem. If the pump is still running but the gear is not going all the way up, that’s a different problem.
I hate to come across as a wise guy, but is the reservoir full of fluid?
There is a test in the service manual to determine if the pump is putting out the desired pressure. Since you have bled the lines, I believe I would determine the type of LG power pack is installed, and do the pressure tests in the manual.

Having a problem with the main landing gear: they don’t always fully retract when in flight, but always retract when on jacks. The actuators were both replaced in June. We’ve made sure that the hydraulic lines were thoroughly bled of air. Also, the left gear will sometimes stop 5-6 inches short of full retraction, other times just a few inches. But again sometimes, they both fully retract and the Gear Unsafe light turns off. Any ideas?
