Tires for 1978 Archer II

Hi Don,
Our A&P, Steve Ells has responded to your message.
“The type certificate data sheet and the Owner’s Manual or Pilot Operating Handbook describe the tire size and ply rating approved for installation on each airplane.
For instance the data will indicate a 6.00 x 6 4 ply rating (4PR). Any tire of that size and ply rating may be installed.
Being a value conscious buyer I buy 6.00 x 6 4PR “Monster” retreads from Desser tire. Since I’ve seen the testing Desser does prior to retreading tires I’m OK with retreads.

ModeratorHi Don,
I checked with Steve Chlavin at Desser Tires and he said he’s not aware of a requirement for a specific brand or part number for tires for the Archer. Some aircraft: Gulfstream, Falcon, do have that requirement however. The best bet may be to check your POH and see if it specifies a manufacturer or part number.

JenGuestHi Don,
I have sent your question to our Piper Flyers Assn resident A&P, Steve Ells for his review. Please give him a day or two to respond.
Thanks for your patience,
Scott Sherer
N344TBDoes anyone know if tires for a 1978 Piper Archer II must be “brand specific” or “manufacturer approved only”? (i.e., McCreary vs Concord). I understand that a 6 ply tire is required. Where can I find a list of what tire options might be approved? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Don
