I think this method will work for you. I have two aligning punches that I used to temporarily align the lower cowling with the fuselage when I’m installing it by myself.
I leave one punch on one side of the cowling and one on the other. Before I start to put the cowling into position I check to see that I have all the hose clamps for the heater ducting, and carb heat ducting, and that I have the screws and the screwdriver I’ll need to secure the cowling to the airframe. I usually put the screws and driver on a rag on the ground.
My Comanche is a pain because two ears at the front need to be maneuvered around the prop and cylinder cooling baffling sheet metal. You should be able to hold the cowling in position to approach from the front. It’s really best if you have a helper but if not you can do it.
Try to get the nose part into the proper position relative to the prop. Then just move around the prop and get a punch in to hold one side up. Go to the other side and align in and poke the punch into the proper hole; this gets the job started.
Before you put in screws, take a good look to see that you’re going to be able to get at the hoses, that the hoses are not being squeezed or are out of position. If it’s all good go ahead and put one screw in each side, preferably one of the upper screws.
Them put the top cowl in position and snug down the hasps. This will help align the lower cowl properly. Once everything looks good, you can finish installing the rest of the screws on the lower cowling.
You may have to remove the top cowl to finish tightening clamps and finishing up but the top cowl is pretty easy to R and R.
