Thanks for posting to let us know the outcome. Good for your IA for digging into the matter further.
Maybe we’ll see you at AirVenture?

Thanks Jen!
In talking with my IA he researched my logbooks found that AD 88-04-05 had been complied with back in 1988 and there is no mention of a requirement to install an alignment stripe on the Forward Baggage Compartment Door Latch Assembly.
Thanks for taking the time to help and hopefully this little bit of info helps someone else!

Thanks Jen!
Attached is an FAA summary from AFS on the subject. It discusses the 2 Piper SB’s (633A & 872) that address the PA-34 Forward Baggage Compartment Door and Latch Assembly and references AD 88-04-05. In reviewing the SB 872, which would be applicable to my airplane, I see no mention of “alignment marks” to be installed…
Maybe I’m missing it! Like a very well respected airline pilot mentor of mine once said “I make 3 mistakes before I even get out bed in the morning!”
Thanks again for your time and everyone’s expertise!

Hi All!
Quick question…
A very wise, experienced A&P/IA had issue with my, new to me, 1981 Seneca III the other day during a discussion on an unrelated matter.
When I asked why, he mentioned that just by looking at the airplane the AD on the Forward Baggage Door (AD 88-04-05) had not been C/W’d with because the “red alignment stripe” on the latch assembly was missing.
In researching all this, I reviewed the Door AD, actually looks like there are 2 with a couple of Piper SB’s and SL’s out there too, I could not find a requirement to paint an alignment stripe on the latch.
The first AD was published even before my airplane was produced in 1981.
This airplane’s key cannot be removed from the Forward Baggage Compartment lock unless the latch is, in fact, closed & locked.
Have you seen other PA-34’s with a stripe painted on the door, if so, it’s news to me.
I’m talking with my IA about it soon, but thought I’d ask you guys…
Your thoughts please!?
Thanks in advance as always!
