Hi Pete – I’m looking at an electric backup hydraulic pump for my Geronimo. Can you tell me more about: cost, seller, time to install, weigh change, etc? Did you have Diamondaire install it? I tried to open the attachments you added to your old post in the Piper Forum but was unable.

I plan on doing the electric hydraulic pump installation as well. Not sure how soon as I have a few other things to do on the plane first but it is on “the list”.
Hi Pete – I just became the owner of a 1958 Geronimo Conversion. I’m also interested in hearing more about your backup electric hydraulic pump: ie; cost, installation time, installation labor, did DiamondAire do the install, how much weight it added, and are you happy with it after a year?
Best, Kevin GallagherThanks for the info on the get together Steve. I do hope to attend.
My Aztec is back in service….finally. It’s been a long road in getting the airplane to where it needs to be after my acquisition in Feb 2017.Hi Pete;
Thanks for passing on this information on this improvement to your Aztec.
I hope she’s up and flying again.
Are you planning to come to the Piper Flyer get together in Waupaca, the weekend before AirVenture starts this year.

Hi Pete;
Thanks for getting back to me with this positive report.
If you have a chance, will you send me digital photos of the button and of the Diamond Aire pump assembly if you have them?
If you can attach them to this forum, that would be great. If not send to Steve@EllsAviation.com.Steve, finally installed the electric backup hydraulic pump from Diamond Aire. Works great. The pump automatically engages to assist the left engine driven pump on “gear up”, bringing the wheels into the well much quicker; and available for gear down if needed (due to loss of the left engine pump) by pressing a button on the panel.
Steve, the mx shop here at KDPA also determined the Piper RE hydraulic pump option is not available. I’ll let you know how the Diamond Aire option works. John at Diamond Aire explained his is light weight, easier to install than the Piper option was, operates automatically to assist when you bring the gear up (speeds up the wheels up timing, which is a plus), and if you need it for gear down, you hold in a button and put the gear lever down.
