lower cowling epoxy or polyester ?
-
Hi Steve,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
Looks like I can order Simple Green on the web here in Europe, however, how to distinguish Industrial Simple Green from the one from grocery ? I fact I have never seen this product in shops.
Is that product : “Simple Green Extreme Aircraft and Precision cleaner” what you mean ?
Kind regards,
GillesHi Gilles;
Piper used polyester resin.
My fiberglass guru told me that you can use epoxy resin–it’s much stronger–but has a shorter working time.
The key to any fiberglass work, esp on the cowling is to make sure that all the oil is out of the surface that is being repaired.
Yes, oil can soak into Piper polyester cowlings down to the fabric layer.
One solvent my guy recommended is the industrial Simple Green that is safe to use on aircraft metals. Do Not use the Simple Green that can be purchased at the local grocery.
SteveHi everyones,
We want to make small fiberglass repairs on the lower cowling of our Arrow-IV.
Does anyone knows if the resin is epoxy or polyester ?
Thanks for help,
Gilles
