    Hi Jen,

I guess I have a different opinion on having the forum free for non-members. The forum is worth what you pay for it. If it’s free, that’s what it’s worth. What I’m trying to say is that people will not renew if they can get the service(s) free. What would be better (in my opinion) is to promote the forum as being a tremendous resource to both members and non-members. Show that it has value.

From my point of view the forum usage has grown dramatically in the last year. While perhaps not where we would all like it to be it is certainly moving in the right direction. I would stay the course and keep doing more of what we’re doing right.

    Just my two cents worth.

    Have a good night,

Thanks for taking the time to go through this. I will get to work on fixing those errors.

I think I figured out where it went wrong …

Seems like the “correct’ path is for a first time user to click on (or mouse over) “Join”, then “Limited Free Online Account”. Life is good.

What I did was as a first time user, click on “Membership”. That took me a different page altogether with a large and inviting banner that says “Join now, it’s free”. You click on that button, and it’s a road to nowhere. I tried it just now and after putting in personal data, it kept complaining of captcha errors (but there was no captcha on that page). When I tried it originally yesterday, from what I remembered everything appeared to work, but no free account was actually created. I tried that a couple of times and just got nowhere …

    Testing, testing…

Hmmm, the posting works for me when I’m logged in under by “free online” account. I never received a notice of your free account being set up, so I wonder if something went wrong with the registration process. I will look into that next.

Any other “free” members out there, please log in and let me know if you are able to post.

I have to say that wasn’t quite my experience. After I joined as a free member a number of hours ago, every time after I logged in, I was redirected to a page with the different paid membership types – eg. North America, etc. There was no option on that page to choose “free” so I wasn’t able to hit the Continue button. So the problem for me was once I logged on with my browser, I couldn’t navigate to anywhere else.

And if I were to open a new browser or browser tab following the above, it showed that I was not logged on. Without being logged on, there was no option to reply to forum messages.

I tried the above a couple of times and gave up. I was going to pay up anyway so that’s what I did afterwards.

FYI, I am an electrical engineer by training and I write software including web programming. But honestly I was stumped …

    Hi Joe,

This is Jen D using a “free online” account to test posting. So yes, non-members just need to register and they can post.

Are non-members of PFA able to look here or post after registering? If they were able that should bring more traffic. I don’t really see how it would be a negative, maybe I’m missing something?
