Air Conditioning
-
Hi Ian;
Just to follow up on the Artic Air Cooler portable air conditioning option. If this portable option works for you, removal of the factory installed A/C system will provide you with around 70 more pounds of useful load.
Might want to think about that while your airplane is in for maintenance.Hi Grant, I am in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia and paint shop is in Horsham, Victoria. Will check out your photos.
Thanks and Regards IanWhere are you located? I had my Arrow painted in Mena, AR and am very pleased with the result. Google N314PW for pictures. Let me know if you want contact info.

I know Jamie Steele, at Dayton, OH, offers paint services. MIdwest Aircraft Refinishing is an excellent source, but in MInnesota.
Ian, are you going for a retro look or newer paint scheme?
Hi Kent,
The Arrow is going in for a full strip and repaint next week so have deferred work on air con issue until bank balance is restored. However, Steve Ells suggestions were very helpful and I will be certainly following those at a later date.
On the repaint job ….. I would be grateful if anyone in the Piper community has any tips on this project. I have replaced all the old plastic fairings in fibre glass and strobes and lights with LED units. Now trying to decide on the paint scheme. Have viewed all aircraft photos on the PFA website and looked at samples on Scheme Designers website. Any other suggestions?
Regards
IanHi Ian. How is your quest going for your air conditioning issue?
Thanks Michelle
I’ve got a Piper Arrow and the PAC52 cooler. With 35 pounds of ice, it will cool the cabin 20-30 degrees from ambient temperature for over an hour before all the ice is melted. I typically run it from start up until I get to altitude, turn it off, then run it again when descending. I’ve heard some pilots use block ice and get much longer cooling performance out of it. Even when there is just cold water in it, it keeps the cabin noticeable cooler (it will do this for another hour or two). It really is a lifesaver on those hot Texas summer days.
