Sounds like they left out the decimal point between the 1 & the 6. Even if they needed to pull the prop to change the belt, it should be nowhere near 16 hours.
Alternator replacement
-
Hi Thomas,
That’s very high for a simple alternator change.
I don’t have what’s called a “flat rate manual” here for your PA 28R-180 but I do have an alternator installed on my PA 24 (with 180 hp Lycoming engine) and unless there were other actions that were done during the alternator swap out (such as baffling repair, or wiring repair) I’d say that a competent mechanic with the correct hand tools should be able make that swap in 1.5 to 2 man hours.If that total is for man hours, and does not include an alternator core charge (which you should get refunded if the core is good), then I would strongly question that total.

Hi Steve
Thank you for your reply it is much appreciated it was a like for like replacementHi Thomas;
It might be high. It depends on what needed to be done.
What alternator was installed?
Was it a replacement of the same make and model? Or was it an upgrade?If it was an upgrade, it’s not unusual that when a larger capacity alternator is installed, a larger circuit breaker also needs to be installed.
Please let me know exactly what was done by getting back to me with answers to these questions.
Best,
Steve
Can someone please tell me the service hours to change an alternator on my Arrow PA28r 180 as I have just been charged 16 hours to change an alternator which seems like a lot.
Thank you in Advance
