    Hi Eric,
Road trip to the heater clinic.

    Sounds like big fun.

Let us know how it goes.

Ask Mr Sandman how to keep your heater healthy durin the months you’re not using it. It would be a bummer if you attempted to light it off next fall only to be disappointed.

Well, as typical for an Annie the Apache adventure the heater saga has taken another turn. My IA that was going to do the install recently found a new hangar to lease for his business and that will greatly help him. However, it loads him up with extra work in getting moved and set up at the new location. As we were already struggling to figure out what was original and what has been modified and how to make the installation work we decided to let Bill Sandman with Nexus Climate just do the installation. He has already been a huge help and it was obvious that he will be able to accomplish the install for us. So Annie will take trip to the heater spa in Holland, Michigan in early May!

This pic was sent by Nelson, the IA working on the heater. My other buddy that is an IA will be doing the Annual and some other small “upgrades and fixes” to keep things rolling. I’m hoping we get some really good time flying this summer anyway!

This is the first “test fit” of the heater into where it will eventually be installed. We had to remove a bracket that was riveted onto the heater box for a modified heater. That was blocking us from installing our heater which is the original SouthWind 940 series.

    Hi Eric,
You will probably get that new heater working well by Spring!
As Kent said, pls keep up in the loop.
If you are taking pictures, please send them along as you go.

Yup! I feel very confident we will get it working great once I won’t need it!

At this point it looks like we found the help we need. Hartzell now own all three heater companies, Janitrol, Southwind and C&D. I called Hartzell tech support and they sent me to Bill Sandman. Bill runs Nexus Climate Control in Holland, MI. He talked to my mechanic and has already been a HUGE help. It turns out the Apache WAS modified to another heater so there was a very good reason we couldn’t mount the one we had even though it was the “correct” heater. So at least the first hurdle has been cleared. More hurdles to go!

So we started the next adventure with the Apache and have begun installing the heater. When I bought the Apache it didn’t have a heater due to an AD and I bought one that complies. However, as we look at the new heater (that is the correct model for my serial number) and we are not sure how it actually fits in there. We think the plane may have been modified for a different heater at some point. Or we are just confused. At any rate, anyone with experience in Apache/Aztec heaters that could help would be appreciated.

    Eric
