    Hi Will;
Glad you found the part you needed.
It’s quite possible that that crack was caused by an over turn of the nose LG by the ground crew when towing your airplane. Usually the damage from an over turn is to shear off the “stop” you can see where the crack starts at the outside of the strut housing.

I would like to feature the picture you posted in one of my Piper Q&A columns but the photo is much too small.
The following are the guidelines from my editor:

“Images should be in JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format. Minimum size for images to be usable in print is 1,800 x 1,200 pixels, 2.1 megapixels, or at least 500kb in file size if compressed JPEG. Image files smaller than the minimums listed here may not be usable. Higher-resolution submissions are always preferred.”

If you have a copy of the photo that fits these guidelines, you can send it directly to the editor at Scott@aviationgroupltd.com, and me at Steve@EllsAviation.com, or you can use any other file sharing site Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc. Simply submit the
file-sharing link to us via email at scott@aviationgroupltd.com.
I know this may be a bit of a hassle, but your efforts will aid us in passing on information to other Comanche owners and readers of the Piper Flyer magazine.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Will –
Here are a few companies that indicate they have access to these two parts.  Ask if they are NOS or As Removed.  Always verify your part numbers and discuss restocking iff needed.
    Happy wrenching.

Thanks Steve. Contacted them. They will only repair the “nubs” for the steering hub. They said any crack in the tube makes it unserviceable and they cannot repair it.

I found one at Dallas air salvage.

    Hi Will,
It appears as though http://www.precision-welding.com has FAA approval to do weld repairs on the 21707-000.

I’m not sure they can weld the crack, but it’s worth a phone call to find out!

    Best,
    Steve
