Hi All –
The (recently overhauled) Janitrol heater in my Aztec is mystifying me:
– In flight, it will sometimes start producing heat, but it won’t keep it up for long. Soon it starts blowing cold air and then you are out of business, heat-wise. Sometimes you can get it to start up again by turning it off and waiting 15-20 minutes and trying again, or turning the switch to “blower” and waiting and then back to heat. Last weekend it refused to come on at all, during a 3-hour flight home from Sedona, and it was darned chilly (I tried many times).
– On the ground, for my shop, it performs brilliantly. They said it comes on, blows hot air, cycles off after a few minutes, then fires up again and blows hot air again.
– In flight on the way home from the mechanic, it refused to blow hot air.
Does anyone have experience with this behavior in a Janitrol, and any clues on how to make it fail on the ground so a shop can troubleshoot it?
thanks!
-Frank.
