    All good advice!

    I was trained at a Class D under ONT’s shelf, so I was thrown into radio procedure early. 🙂

    And definately will stay in shape on short field, my home airport is ~3000ft, fortunately the 235 drops like a brick and has good brakes–the finesse of not having to use them aggressively is what my CFI and I will be working on. 😉

    I took a flight out of SBA (where’s she getting some repairs now) and yeah, busy space around LA and north, but I was trained well. Plus, I’m a CAP Mission Observer, so radios are something I deal with alot already.

    If you’re in Paso, we may run into each other: my wife’s mission for us is visiting her sister in Santa Ynez.

    And maintenance and upgrades, yes. I will be asking lots of questions soon. I have so many already!

    Hi Christopher;
    Congratulations on taking the airplane ownership plunge.
    If I were in your position, I would get real comfortable with flying the airplane. Get comfortable with short field landings and take offs; load it up and note the difference in the performance envelope, get a real number for your engine and flying style for the fuel consumption, for instance.
    I live up in Paso Robles (KPRB) and am always willing to meet with members.
    You will need to get comfortable with flying through the LA airspace if you want to fly north. It’s not difficult and the LA controllers are some of the best in the country.
    Get comfortable with your radio comm procedures; sometimes the frequencies are crowded and the better you understand what the controllers want and how to give it to them in a precise, understandable sequence the better the system will work for you.
    Keep in touch and when you have questions about maintenance or upgrades, get back on this forum and write em up so we can help you.
    Steve

    You’ve been given great advice! By spending some time in your new (to you!) plane you can find out what you really like and don’t like. Then you can decide if it makes sense to make changes or stay with what you already have. The Cherokee 235 is a great plane! It would certainly make my “short list “. I predict you will really enjoy flying it and getting used to it.
    Keep us updated please!

    Hello all!

    New(-ish) pilot and new owner of a 1965 PA28-235 here in Southern CA. Also, scared out of my wits getting started in aircraft ownership.

    I had all kinds of things planned for this plane as I was in the process of buying it. But no less than 4 pilots I trust said “just go fly her and enjoy before you make any changes”. So I’m going to take that advice and start doing $100 hamburgers in the area.

    Happy to be a new Piper owner and looking forward to interacting with some of you and expanding my flying experiences!
