Hi Piper Flyers! In response to my column asking what folks are doing to help save their local airports I got this great response:
John Moeckel has asked me to send along some of our lessons learned from our efforts to save the Venice Airport from initial closure and later significant degradation of its utility. Our circumstances appear to be different than yours but you may find something useful in what I have attached. AOPA was some help primarily in information and we had access to some high level retired FAA folks that gave us some advice also. We visited and engaged with every level in the system including lining up a consultant in D.C. to help with the FAA as needed. Turned out that while AOPA was not much help at the local level they provided some key help in D.C. Not much but absolutely timely. John Collins at AOPA (he has a different job now) was extremely helpful with technical information. – Paul H
