Thanks for the info. I have not yet had a chance to call them. I did talk with another inspector in CA about their result in inspecting PA-28 spars. I specifically asked if there are any “tell tails” on which planes pass and which fail. He mentioned that there doesn’t seem to be a clear indicator. He did mention that he has seen airplanes with 20,000+ hours pass, and one with only 4,800 hours fail.

Thanks for the info again. I still need to call them.

    Hi Aaron,
Was Applied Technical Services able to do the wing bolt eddy current inspection for you?

    Hi Aaron;
Thanks for expansive data set on the Cherokee Spar Eddy Current results.
A few years ago Cessna printed a listing of approved Non Destructive Testing sites.
    One close to you is:
    Applied Technical Services
    1325 “B” Cavalier Blvd.
    Chesapeake, VA
    USA 23323
    Phone: 757-558-0016
    Fax: 757-558-0063

I don’t know for sure that it can do the bolt hole inspection protocol, but that’s the first place I’d ask.

If not, ask them if they know anyone that can do it.

I also have other NDT testing sites that are farther from your location from the list I’d be happy to forward to you.

Let me know what you need.

I am considering doing the eddy current inspection on my ’67 PA-28-140.  I know, I know, that model is not covered by any of the current AD’s requiring it, but I am looking for further peace of mind when I fly me and my family that the airplane is in good shape.  To add to this, my aircraft does have some damage history in it’s past, which adds to the concern based on Piper’s SB from back in the 80’s.

Anyway, I am located in the northern Virginia area and was wondering if there is a NDT service for this area?  If any other reader may be from this part of the country and has had this done, I would like to know.

I have also attached the raw data from the FAA’s first AD responses for the wing spar crack reports.  The data presented by the FAA in the proposed AD”s is lacking and doesn’t tell the true story.  The data attached is from the following source… https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/pa28-32-wing-spar-ad-show-me-the-data.147900/

    Thanks for the help,
    Aaron
