    Hey Guys,
Great to see some ‘Seneca talk’. Just getting back to viewing these posts. I have owned a 1989 Seneca III since new, based in Charlottetown P.E.I., Canada (CYYG).
I have kept the plane up over the years, now with almost 3000 hrs., during which time I have added a 530W, Avidyne TAS 605, Garmin audio panel, 406 ELT, Shadin Digiflo fuel flow, JPI 760 twin, Bose headsets. Recently added the Aspen 2000 PFD/MFD and still getting used to the change. The airplane was ordered with a full option list, except A/C (60 lbs!), and has a full fuel payload of 700 lbs.

Our travels take us all over central and eastern Canada, the eastern U.S., Bahamas and Caribbean. ‘Seneca C-FJMM” has proven to be a reliable travelling machine these past 24 years, with the usual frustrations maintaining gear, following up maintenance squawks, etc., but she remains an important member of our family. Our Piper dealer would love to sell me a new V, but it won’t carry the load…not to mention the %1mil+ price tag.

I look forward to ‘hanging’ with you guys and sharing some Seneca stories.

    All the best.
    David

The man to talk to is Ray. His phone number is 604-795-5833.

I have had trouble getting prices from him, you might have to work a little to get what you need.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi Kent,
I’ve had experience with both three blades and two on my three Seneca’s and on my Seminole. Starting with the Seminole: When I purchased the Seminole it had three blade props. When they came due for overhaul and subsequent replacement, they were very expensive. It turned out cheaper to buy two blade props, governors and spinners rather than replace three blade props. Three blades were smoother (less vibration) and quieter but about five knots slower. Moving on to the Seneca, the two Seneca’s 2’s that I’ve owned had two blade props. I’ve also owned a Seneca 3 with three blade props. As I recall, the three blade props look much cooler but I didn’t notice them being smoother or quieter. Performance was about the same. Looking back over time, I’ve definitely appreciated the cost savings with two blades, though. I’ve had to replace a blade, a governor and a couple of deice boots. I’ve definitely saved money with the two blade props. Having said that, if money weren’t an issue I’d definitely go for the three blades. 🙂 Happy hunting!

I forgot to mention. There is a Seneca II being parted out it Canada. I can check with them about the nose gear doors.

    Hi Again,

Of course my son would like 3 blades, I am open to either one. Cost is an issue right now, and I would like to get her in the air. The blades that were on it were two blades, and on inspection 3 of the 4 total blades were bad.

Does it make sense to by 3 more single blades? Are three bladed propellers better? Quieter, faster, etc. We all like the look of three blades better – but are there other benefits?

We are open to all ideas and enlightenment.

    Thanks

    Hi Kent,

Thanks for your greetings. The project is going okay. I’m looking for new nose gear doors and should find some soon. Regarding your request for props: 2 or 3 blade? Any other requirements?

Let me know and I’ll check around. Great hearing from you!

    HI Scott,

I think I tried to email you directly, versus through the web site. How is the project going?

We are looking for some used propellers. Do you have any ideas of where we should look?

    Thanks.

    Greetings, Kent,

thanks so much for your email. I’ve had this particular Seneca for about ten years now but I’ve had 3 Seneca’s over the last quarter century, or so. Regarding mods and refurb, here’s what I’ve done so far.
    1. Installed a new Airtex interior with new glass.
    2. Overhauled all panel instruments.
    3. Garmin 530W, gdl69, gmx-200, Century 2000 autopilot with gpss and altitude preselect. Able to do lpv approaches.
    3. All Knots2U mods and Lopresti nose bowls.
    4. 30 gallon auxiliary fuel tanks totaling 160 gallons.
    5. Wolf air-oil separators. No oil leakage and no new oil between oil changes.
    6. overhauled engines in ft Lauderdale.

The only thing left is paint, and I hope to do that before the end of the year.

Are you going to be in Oshkosh for Airventure? If so, I live nearby…

    Best regards,

    Scott Sherer
