Hi Steve,
Yes, my repair shop has the aluminized heat barrier that you referenced. Adjacent to the turbocharger and laminated between the fiberglass and the aluminized heat barrier is a “heat shield” material, approximately 3/16″ thick and about 10″X16″. Mine is pretty scorched on the interior side so it’s hard to tell but it almost looks like a very dense closed cell foam type material, definitely a plastic of some sort. I’m trying to determine what type of material this could be.

I need to replace the heat shield on my Saratoga II TC, interior of the lower cowl, right side adjacent to the turbocharger. Part number is 100927-016. Piper advised it is a “quote item”, and I’m waiting on their quote. Can anyone advise the type of material that is used and what might be an acceptable substitute in the event this is not available through Piper? It appears that this is laminated to the fiberglass then overlain by a woven thermal protection material.
