    Thanks so much, Steve. I don’t see any information about Yaw Damper use and effectiveness in Troy’s article but it looks like he’s a Cessna flyer. I’m particularly interested in YD effectiveness in a Saratoga like mine. I’ve been flying the GFC 500 in Cirrus’ for the past 4 years so very familiar with how great of an autopilot the 500 is. Just trying to find out other’s experience with the YD. Thanks again.

    Hi Phillip;

    Sorry for the lag in a response.

    I suggest you read an article on the GFC 500 written by Piper Flyer Associate Editor Troy Whistman.
    https://www.cessnaflyer.org/magazine/article-archives/avionics/tips-tricks-for-flying-with-the-garmin-gfc-500-afcs-autopilot-part-1.html.

    If you have questions, I believe Troy will be happy to pass on his experience.

    Please let me know if you would like his contact information

    I’m upgrading the autopilot on a 1996 Saratoga II HP I recently purchased to a GFC-500.  Interested to know if anyone who has done similar upgrade installed a yaw damper with the -500.  If so, can you tell a difference in the aircraft’s response to turbulence with or without the Yaw Damper engaged.
