Initial schedule includes five stops leading up to AirVenture
EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (April 23, 2024) — History enthusiasts can take flight in a piece of World War II history this summer, as EAA’s North American B-25 Berlin Express will tour the country beginning on May 16-19 at the TBM Avenger Reunion in Peru, Illinois.
The current tour schedule includes:
· Peru, Illinois – May 16-19 (TBM Avenger Reunion)
· Cincinnati, Ohio – May 24-26 (With B-29 Doc)
· Olathe, Kansas – June 14-16 (With B-29 Doc)
· Rockford, Illinois – June 21-23
· Madison, Wisconsin – June 27-30 (With EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor)
· Oshkosh, Wisconsin – July 22-28 (EAA AirVenture)
Additional tour stops will be announced as they are finalized.
EAA’s B-25 was first accepted by the U.S. Army Air Forces in December 1943. The airplane left the factory fitted with two fixed .50-caliber machine guns and a massive 75 mm cannon. The airplane served out the war as an administrative aircraft, stationed at bases in Washington, Colorado, and California. After the war, the B-25 changed hands several times and was heavily modified for use as an executive transport. The Berlin Express name and accompanying markings come from the airplane’s appearance in the 1970 satirical war film Catch-22, based on the Joseph Heller novel of the same name.
Flight experiences aboard the Berlin Express are $475 for EAA members, and $495 for nonmembers. Once in the air, passengers are allowed to freely move about and explore the various compartments of the aircraft. Each flight experience is approximately one hour, including briefing, debriefing, and about 20 minutes of flight time.
