    Thank you Jay-

What year is your PA-28?  In case a different year has a different configuration for vents.

Well, it is ez. Borescope camera from cabin to wing thru vent opening puts you into the “air box” between front wing skin and the front of the spar.  We got some good pics to determine the condition, all very good BTY.

    thanks for everyone’s input,

    Jay, new member

Thank you Jen & Tom.  In looking at the parts manual, neighbor IA (and I) will insert borescope thru forward vents next week.  It looks to us that there is an air box fed by the vent in front of wing with a duct feeding the backseat vents.  The spar and wing skin made up the air box.  It might be really easy— 🤞

    sure appreciate your quick reply

    Hi Jay,

My friend Tom at Flight Line in Florida has a comment on your inspection question.

Please note – this is an opinion, not a recommendation or approval.  Tom is looking into if further for us.

“This is a difficult area to get to . Putting that inspection panel in doesn’t get you to the front side of the spar as the panel is on the aft side.

Some aircraft have a 3/16th inch drain hole on the forward side of the spar (see attached. )If that hole was enlarged slightly to ¼ inch one could snake a borescope in there and get a good look at the fitting .

This isn’t approval to do it but if you had the hole there and you enlarged it , it would be a minor alteration.

I am going to run this past Piper to see if we can get them to add this to the SB as way to inspect the spar..”

Hello fellow Piper guys.  New to here, PA28-181. 7890530.
the FAA SB 1400. We have pics of the back side of my forward attach fitting (looks great, no evidence of corrosion), but struggling with inspection of the front side-really struggling.

There is reference to a Piper approved method to drill an inspection hole for borescope inspection.  Anyone have the reference of knowledge?

    thanks, Jay, frustrated in Texas.

SB 1400B lists an inspection panel kit to install in the wing to get a better look at the front spar attach fitting, it is 88692-701. This might help the older aircraft owners that didn’t have the inspection panel installed originally.
